Saint Gobain launches online technical academy
Saint-Gobain Technical Academy has announced the launch of its new online academy, which the company says will “continue its commitment to equipping building professionals with key knowledge about the sustainable building agenda as well as the vital skills needed to deliver it”.
The company’s first training event, ‘An Introduction to NZEB’, is hosted by the academy’s training manager Jason Horrex. This introductory one-hour presentation on NZEB (nearly zero energy buildings) covers the key basics of the recently revised Part L regulations for dwellings, and the accompanying technical guidance document (TGD L). It highlights key changes, demonstrating what compliance might look like when operating under these more stringent and challenging energy regulations for new dwellings constructed in the Republic of Ireland.
The NZEB course will be repeated at new dates throughout June and July. Other upcoming training events will look at topics including airtightness, sound insulation, and fire-resistant partitions.
Saint-Gobain Technical Academy first opened its doors in May 2010 and over the past 10 years has provided training to over 10,000 industry professionals, including contractors, builders’ merchants and architects, as well as new recruits to the industry. With locations in Kingscourt, Co Cavan and Dublin, which house facilities for both theory and practical courses, the Technical Academy has been a one stop shop for industry training. It has been designed to help combat the industry’s skills shortage and provide training on new technologies and systems, as well as up-to-date information around legislation.
Over the coming months the Saint-Gobain Technical Academy will continue to develop its online training content in order to meet the demands of the industry in this unprecedented time. The key focus will be on topics such as energy, fire and sound control in buildings.
