Daikin heat pumps installed at new low energy Wicklow development

The second phase of a new energy-efficient residential development — boasting A3 rated dwellings — has recently launched in Rathnew, Co Wicklow. Kirvin Hill, built by Broomhall Developments, is a new estate of three-bedroom houses, including both semi-detached units and bungalows.

The Kirvin Hill dwellings feature high standards of insulation and airtightness, with Daikin heat pumps supplying underfloor heating downstairs and high efficiency radiators upstairs. The 6kW Daikin Altherma integrated air-to-water heat pumps were supplied and installed throughout by Unitherm Heating Systems.

The Daikin Altherma units boast a seasonal performance factor of 402% and a COP of 4.74 based on an air temperature of 7C and a water temperature of 35C. The units are designed to look aesthetically pleasing, with the indoor units resembling a refrigerator, and mainly installed under the staircases at Kirvin Hill.

All of the houses at Kirvin Hill also have solar photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting systems. As part of the first phase of the scheme, 18 houses were sold, while the second phase of 16 houses launched in mid October. “The feedback we’re getting from people in the initial 18 houses has been very positive, there’s been no teething problems, everybody’s absolutely delighted,” Catherine O’Reilly of Sherry Fitzgerald told Passive House Plus.

The entire Kirvin Hill development will consist of 94 houses, but Broomhall Developments is ultimately planning to build a further 400 houses in total across various adjacent developments.
