Passive house pioneer Wolfgang Feist honoured with UK architectural award
Professor Wolfgang Feist has been awarded an honorary fellowship by the Royal Institute of British Architects. The award ceremony took place on 6 February.
The founder and director of the Passive House Institute and professor of building physics at the University of Innsbruck used his UK trip to visit a selection of "innovative" low energy buildings and to meet leading passive house figures in the country.
"I feel extremely honoured to have been selected for such a prestigious fellowship from such a highly regarded organisation," Prof Feist said.
"The extent to which the passive house standard supports good architecture has been demonstrated by their recognition of my work in the field,” he said. “High levels of energy efficiency and excellent architectural design go hand in hand, with all building shapes and styles possible.”
In Norwich, Prof Feist met with the designers of a new passive house centre at the University of East Anglia’s Research Park. He also visited a residential complex of 14 passive Hauses in the town of Ditchingham, and the construction site of 53 passive homes underway in Camden, London.
RIBA honorary fellowships are awarded annually to individuals who have made a particular contribution to architecture. A total of twelve scientists, entrepreneurs, designers and journalists have been given the award this year.
