Highlights of Open House Dublin 2010 announced

The Irish Architecture Foundation has announced the highlights of the fifth annual Open House Dublin, which takes place from 7 to 11 October 2010. Over the weekend architecturally significant Dublin buildings will open their doors the public, with free tours available.

Confirmed highlights of the 2010 programme include architectural tours of the 50,000-seater Aviva Stadium and the Eircom Building at Heuston South Quarter, and historic buildings including Leinster House and the Marino Casino.

Cultural spaces such as the refurbished and extended Irish Film Institute and CityArts will be on show, as will period and contemporary private homes by A2 Architects, Derek Tynan Architects and Niall McLaughlin Architects.

Open House Dublin 2010 also spotlights the work of one of Dublin’s most iconic and controversial architects, Sam Stephenson, featuring three of his most famous designs: phase one of the Dublin Corporation offices, the Central Bank of Ireland and his former mews home, Number 31 Leeson Close.

As well as over 100 building tours, Open House Dublin 2010 includes a series of events for young participants; walking, cycling and boat tours to explore the spaces between buildings; and a programme of talks, lectures and exhibitions, including a debate on the theme of 'Does size matter?' that will be chaired by John Bowman.

The IAF will add more events in the coming weeks to the Open House website. The final program will be available early in September.
