Building work to commence at Ireland's first ecovillage
Duncan Stewart launched the build phase of Ireland's first ecovillage, the Village project in Cloughjordan, Co Tipperary, last Saturday, 21 March.
Duncan Stewart launched the build phase of Ireland's first ecovillage, the Village project in Cloughjordan, Co Tipperary, last Saturday, 21 March. With €5 million worth of infrastructure on-site completed, work will soon commence on the site's 130 low energy dwellings.
The 67 acre site will feature a solar and wood powered district heating system, 50 acres of land for allotments, farming and woodland and a sustainable living education centre.
"This timely project is much more than a housing development," Stewart said. "It leads the way in real sustainable development. Why? Because it brings together cutting edge technologies found in green building techniques, renewable energy production and natural systems and links them to both sustainable enterprises and the latest in community design. I think this is a fantastic project."
Plots are still available for sale at the site.
