Paul Heat Recovery

Show business description

PAUL Heat Recovery Scotland provides energy efficient ventilation solutions for sustainable homes in Scotland. We are a distributor for PAUL, Zehnder and BluMartin.

Highly efficient heat recovery ventilation is the ideal partner for all new houses and renovated dwellings, which have become more air tight. Air tightness goes hand in hand with good standards of insulation in the drive to optimise the energy efficiency of buildings.

PAUL has become well known for its highly efficient and Passivhaus certified MVHR systems that stand out with their excellent control technology, optimal real heat recovery rates, low energy consumption and last but not least, very silent operation. We provide the world leading MVHR systems for Passivhaus, Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB), Enerphit renovation projects, low energy developments and high-quality new builds.

With our consultancy and design service, we are a reliable partner for installers and companies in the construction industry.

Energy recovery ventilation

Why is ERV the best form of ventilation in the attle against corona viruses?

The coronavirus is spread through the air, especially in indoor spaces. While it is not as infectious as measles, scientists now openly acknowledge the role played by the transmission of aerosols – tiny contagious particles exhaled by an infected person that remain suspended in the air of an indoor environment. Good ventilation of indoor spaces is one of the key factors in minimizing the risk of spreading viruses. However, it is advisable to also look into the effects of increased ventilation, as excessive ventilation in the heating season can lead to dry indoor climates, which are problematic.

Rel humidity and covidA recent Reuters article described how a Japanese supercomputer flagged up that humidity can have a large effect on the dispersion of virus particles, pointing to heightened coronavirus contagion risks in dry indoor conditions during the winter months.

We have carefully looked into this problem and adjusted the way we specify MVHR systems: MVHR systems generally provide good ventilation rates with re-circulation of air, but the higher the ventilation, the lower the indoor humidity levels can get in the heating season. This increases the coronavirus contagion risk substantially. To prevent low humidity levels, we now offer more often MVHR systems with ERV core, which recover heat and humidity, whilst preventing any cross-contamination. As such ERV combines not only energy efficiency with good indoor air quality, but they also provide by far the best indoor environment in the battle against coronaviruses.

Good MVHR systems, like Zehnder and PAUL offer ERV versions, which we find, are the most healthy ventilation systems for larger dwellings.
