SuperHomes retrofit scheme opens for 2017
The SuperHomes Ireland retrofit scheme is open for applications for 2017. The scheme is designed to help homeowners retrofit their properties to an A3 BER standard.
This nationwide scheme, now in its third year, is administered by Tipperary Energy Agency and funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. The scheme piloted in 2015, when ten homes were completed.
A further 22 homes were completed in 2016. The scheme offers grant funding to cover up to 35% of the cost of upgrading pre-2006 homes to an A3 BER. There are several mandatory measures that homeowners must complete to avail of financial support. The primary heating system must be renewable, such as an air source heat pump or pellet boiler, and an advanced ventilation system must be installed.
Finally, the building’s airtightness must be improved. The homeowner can also avail of other non-mandatory measures such as window and door upgrades, insulation, a stove and solar PV arrays. Feedback has shown that 100% of those took part in the pilot scheme would recommend SuperHomes Ireland and Tipperary Energy Agency to a friend. Many homeowners also appreciated the value of having one project manager to deliver an effective packaged solution.
“It’s retrofitting made easy. I couldn’t recommend it more,” said Nenagh-based Charles Stanley Smith, who was one of the first homeowners to take part in 2015. Some open doors events will be planned in summer 2017, which will enable interested parties to visit upgraded houses and talk to homeowners directly.
According to Tipperary Energy Agency: “A SuperHomes retrofit community has emerged over the last two years. Many homeowners who have completed the scheme are happy to talk to others or arrange a visit to view their home. It’s great that homeowners can talk directly to others in their area and see first-hand how it all works.”
Recruitment is now open for SuperHomes 2017. There are more places available this year and the project is open to homeowners from all over Ireland. Visit www.superhomes.ie to apply today.
